Greeting Card Project: Elegant Fern

What you need

  • card stock - taupe, speckled - 8 1/2" x 8 1/2" folded in half to make a 4 1/4" x 8 1/2" card blank
  • card stock - tan - 1 3/4" x 3 3/4"
  • foam tape or corrugated cardboard - 1 3/8" x 3 3/8"
  • fern stamp (credit Stampland)
  • embossing ink - clear or green
  • embossing pen - clear or green
  • embossing powder - green
  • heat gun
  • glue stick
  • 3D paint - gold
  • paper trimmer (optional)

How to do it

Step 1

Stamp and emboss the image onto the 1 3/4" x 3 3/4" card stock.

Step 2

To make the card stock with the embossed image float above the card blank, I glued a 1 3/8" x 3 3/8" piece of corrugated cardboard to the center of the back. Alternatively, you could use foam tape for this.

Step 3

Glue the piece from step 2 onto the card blank in a center, high position.

Step 4

Lightly draw a horizontal pencil line about half way between the bottom of the card and the piece placed in step 3. Use this as a starting point to apply the embossing pen in a line across the width of the card, using a straight edge as a guide. Working quickly, move the straight edge down just far enough so that when you make the second line, it touches the first line. Repeat about five times or enough to make a 1/4" high bar.

Apply the green embossing powder and heat. Skip about a 1/4" space and repeat as above to make a second 1/4" bar. Refer to the photo at the top of the page.

Step 5

Using the 3D paint, place three dots as shown in the photo at the top of the page.
