Greeting Card Project: Branch and Leaves

What you need

  • card stock - 8½" x 5½" folded in half to make a 4¼" x 5½" card blank - dark blue
  • card stock - 4" x 5¼" - light blue, parchment if possible
  • card stock - 4" x 2" - brown
  • card stock - large enough to punch out about 20 leaves - green
  • craft knife, pencil
  • leaf paper punch
  • tweezers
  • scissors
  • paper trimmer (optional)
  • glue

How to do it

Step 1

Click here to go to the leaf and branch templates. Print them and cut out with scissors.

Step 2

Place the leaf template on the card blank, trace around it with a pencil, and cut the leaf shape out of the card blank with a craft knife. Place the branch template on the brown card stock, trace around it with a pencil, and cut the branch shape out with scissors or craft knife.

Step 3

Open the folded card, inside face-up. On the light blue card, apply a thin line of glue on one face very near the edges. Center the light blue card neatly on the back side of the card front (which has the leaf shape cut out of it). Leave long enough for the glue to dry.

Step 4

Glue the branch in place on the card front. It makes a nicer job if you tuck the left end of the branch under the leaf cut-out.

Step 5

Punch out of the green card about 20 leaves. Squeeze out a glob of glue on a piece of scrap paper. Use the tweezers to hold the leaves. Touch each leaf on the glob of glue and glue in place. Refer to the photo at the top of this page for suggested leaf placement.
