What you need

  • card stock - bronze metallic - 7" x 10" folded in half to make a 5" x 7" card blank
  • card stock - purple - 6 1/2" x 9 1/2" folded in half to make a 6 1/2" x 4 3/4" piece
  • handmade paper - light-toned - appr. 3 7/8" x 5 3/4"
  • light weight card or paper - lavender - appr. 6 1/2" x 9 1/2" folded in half to make the insert
  • butterfly stamp
  • embossing ink - gold, cranberry
  • raffia, yarn, metallic thread, and wire
  • glue stick
  • small paint brush
  • 6 buttons
  • paper trimmer (optional)

How to do it

Step 1

Using the cranberry ink, stamp 3 butterflies as shown and clean the stamp. Next, use the gold ink to stamp the butterflies on top of the cranberry butterflies.

Step 2

Open the purple card stock inside face-down. Using the glue stick, attach the handmade paper to the purple card stock as shown. Note in the photo that the handmade paper is mounted slightly to the right of center.

Step 3

Position the buttons as shown and using a needle, sew 3 of the buttons on with metallic thread. Attach the other 3 buttons with the wire. You will probably need to pierce the card stock with an awl or needle first.

Step 4

Usint the paint brush, paint a border of gold ink around the handmade paper as shown.

Step 5

Open the bronze card stock, inside face up. Using the glue stick, apply lines of glue on each side of and parallel to the fold of the bronze card and attach the laverder insert.

Step 6

Open the purple card (the one with the handmade paper and buttons on it) inside face-up. Using the glue stick, apply lines of glue on each side of and parallel to the fold of the purple card and attach it to the outside of the bronze card blank.

Step 7

Take a length of about 20" - 22" of the raffia and yarn and tie them as shown in the photo at the top of the page. Using a square knot makes the ends lay flatter.
