Greeting Card Project: Butterflies Dream

Greeting Card Designed by Diane Dover

What you need

  • card stock - buff, speckled - 8½" x 5½" folded in half to make a 4¼" x 5½" card blank
  • card stock - goldenrod - 5" x 8"
  • mulberry paper - dark blue - 5" x 8"
  • butterfly stamp
  • embossing ink - gold, cranberry
  • raffia and metallic yarn
  • glue stick
  • paper trimmer (optional)

How to do it

Step 1

Fold the mulberry paper in half to make it 4" x 5". Place it on a piece of scrap paper and use the cranberry ink to stamp the butterflies at random as shown. (You may want to add one more in the lower left-hand corner.) Clean the stamp.

Step 2

Using the gold ink, stamp over the cranberry images slightly off register.

Step 3

Open the buff card stock inside face down. Open the mulberry paper and glue in place as shown. Make sure the folds of each piece line up.

Step 4

Open the buff card stock inside face up. Fold the goldenrod card in half so it is 4" x 5". Using the glue stick, run two lines of glue parallel to and on each side of the fold of the buff card. Place the goldenrod card insert as shown. Gluing in this manner allows the outer edges of the insert to hang freely, giving the finished card a more relaxed look.

Step 5

Take a length of about 16" - 18" of the raffia and metallic thread and tie them as shown. Using a square knot makes the ends lay flatter.
