Greeting Card Project: Mulberry Collage

What you need

  • card stock - 8½" x 5½" folded in half to make a 4¼" x 5½" card blank - white
  • card stock - 4¼" x 5½" - any color
  • mulberry paper - 3" x 5" - red
  • mulberry paper - 3" x 4" - green
  • mulberry paper - 2" x 2" - blue
  • graph paper - 4¼" x 5½"
  • craft knife, pencil, metal ruler
  • awl or needle
  • scissors
  • glue stick
  • paper trimmer (optional)

How to do it

Step 1

Cut a 3 1/4" x 4 1/2" window in the 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" card stock. This is your bevel template.

Step 2

Carefully center the template on the back of the card front. Tape in place with removable tape. (Note: Some removable tape will damage some card stock. Tap tape on clothing a few times to lessen the strength of the adhesive. Alway test on a scrap piece of card if you're unsure.)

Step 3

Place card on a light box with the card open and the front facing up. If you don't have a light box, try this light box alternative. With a ball-point stylus, press the card front down into the void of the template to create the bevel. Do not press the stylus on the entire area to be raised - trace only the outline of the bevel. Use short strokes so you are going over the same area a few times (this takes practice). It helps to rub the stylus on wax paper occasionally to help the press go smoothly.

Step 4

Tear and cut the red mulberry paper as shown. Carefully apply the glue stick to the back of the paper and place as shown.

Step 5

Tear and cut the green mulberry paper as shown. Carefully apply the glue stick to the back of the paper and place as shown.

Step 6

Click here to go to the star template and print it. Choose whichever size star you would like on your greeting card and use the craft knife to cut it out. Use this cut out to trace with a pencil on to the blue mulberry paper. Cut out the star from the blue mulberry paper. Carefully apply the glue stick to the back of the paper and place as shown in the photo at the top of the page.
