I'm not sure if creativity can be "learned," but I found in my schooling as a photographer, creativity can be developed. When I made this photo, I had no idea it was something worthy of attention. I showed one of my teachers a proof sheet and he emphatically pointed to this image. "Oh, is that good?" was my response.
Even after years of school and experience and thousands of images, I still have difficulty at times recognizing if what I have done is "good" or not. It's because I'm too close to the work.
The subject of the photo is the supporting structure and underside of a highway overpass. It's named "Glendon" after it's location in Fayette County, Ohio.
On the front is a quote by Russian novelist, essayist, dramatist, and philosopher Leo Tolstoy: "There is no greatness where there is not simplicity."
