Buy unique black and white fine art photo greeting cards: The story of Eye
March 25, 1990: I'm driving the back roads of Clinton County, Ohio looking for things to photograph. An old, rusty, beat-up grain bin catches my eye. On the door of the bin is the name "BUCKEYE."
I notice the vent holes in the body of the structure look a lot like eyes. BUCKEYE. Hmmm. Could this possibly work as a photograph? A more experienced photographer might know the answer to that question right away. But sometimes I need to see it in print. Goodness knows I've gone through a lot of film for images that "don't work."
But I'm glad I chose to shoot this one. It's one of my favorites - it's visually interesting and has elements of humor and curiosity. And the vines penetrating the "eyes" are a little macabre.
On the front is a quote by eighteenth-century poet and essayist Jonathan Swift: "Vision is the art of seeing things invisible."
