Buy unique black and white fine art photo greeting cards: The story of Anticipation
No humans or trains were harmed in the making of this photograph. However, this is not a digitally-altered image.
The photo was made with a 4x5 view camera on a single sheet of film. For the first part of the exposure, I set the camera on a tripod, covered half of the lens, and tripped the shutter by stepping on a bulb release (the photographer was also the subject).
Then I covered the other half of the lens and waited a couple of hours for the train to come to complete the picture.
The location is between Peebles and Jaybird, Ohio, on the Norfolk Southern (ex Norfolk and Western) "Peavine."
On the front is a quote by nineteenth century British statesman and literary figure Benjamin Disraeli: "What we anticipate seldom occurs."
